Drew Smith had been in the bar & restaurant business for over 20 years, most recently managing a tavern in Urbana for the past 13 years. Throughout his career, he dreamt of opening his own establishment and sharing his love for food with others. When a green box trailer became available for purchase and it took only a day for Drew and his wife Jessica to decide it was time to make their move on his dream.
That kelly-green trailer has become a fixture around the CU area and its surrounding towns, serving up some delicious hand-crafted smash burgers and elevated fast food.
Moving to Downtown.
The Smith family quickly took advantage of an opportunity to open a location inside Collective Pour in Downtown Champaign. Collective Pour is home to a great craft beer and bourbon selection, and is the perfect spot to have a burger downtown! Since opening, Smith Burger @ Collective Pour has become a staple of dining in Downtown Champaign.
The Yard on Broadway
The Smith Family’s newest venture as of July 2025 is the Yard on Broadway, a food hall in Urbana (formally known as Broadway Food Hall). This space features 4 restaurants, including Smith Burger, Watson’s Chicken, Regal Pig Pizza & Grinders, and Fernando’s Tacos, as well as a full service bar (Public House 1833), the Main Scoop Ice Cream Parlor, and Columbia St. Cafe, a spot to stop and grab coffee and a breakfast.
With TONS of TVs, seating, and a gaming area for adults and kids alike, the Yard on Broadway is the perfect spot to bring big groups to watch the game, let the kids play on the yard, and in the arcade, and pick whatever food they want…there’s something for everyone!
